Who are Smart Energy GB?
You might not have heard of Smart Energy GB before. We’re the not-for-profit campaign helping everyone in Britain understand the importance of smart meters and their benefits to people and the environment.
What do we do?
The ‘everyone in Britain’ task is an important one. We are talking to consumers from all backgrounds, across the whole of Great Britain. That’s 26 million households and 2 million microbusinesses across England, Scotland and Wales (no mean feat).
Our licence conditions mean that we have a particular need to make sure that consumers who are harder to reach or need greater support are not left behind. This is already part of our responsibilities and continues to be an increasing focus. But it’s not just our licence conditions here, it’s something we’re deeply passionate about and committed to.
Why did we choose to work with Accuracy Matters?
Making sure consumers who need greater support aren’t left behind is one of the main reasons we decided to work with Accuracy Matters. Since the start of 2022, we’ve been working with them, using their copywriting services for our core content series. We produce a range of different smart-meter-related materials, such as posters, leaflets and videos. This content is predominately used by our partners to help support conversations with consumers on smart meters, demonstrating the benefits that smart meters can bring while also helping to address any concerns. And this content is also housed on our Resource centre via the Smart Energy GB website. It can be accessed by any organisation that wants to obtain materials to help any smart-meter-related conversations they may be having with clients and beneficiaries.
We therefore wanted to ensure that our content appealed to specific audiences who may be in vulnerable circumstances, while breaking down the complexity of smart meters and presenting an engaging argument in a simple and accessible way.
How have we benefited from working with Accuracy Matters?
Accuracy Matters have enabled us to appeal to these audience groups. Their excellent copywriters quickly got up to speed, understanding us as an organisation as well as our smart meter product. This certainly isn’t an easy thing to do – we need to ensure factual accuracy to ensure that we’re not misleading consumers or making any false claims, and the world of smart meters and energy jargon can be hard to break down. What has been most crucial and assuring is that the copy written by Accuracy Matters has been presented in a straightforward and simple way to ensure that it is engaging for audiences who may have comprehension barriers. It is not only the copywriters who we’ve been impressed with; the management of projects has been faultless, always delivered on time and with a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm.
We see Accuracy Matters as an important partner in enabling us to ensure that our content remains accessible, which is why we have further projects planned with the Accuracy Matters team, including support for even broader activity across 2023.
