How Accuracy Matters plans, costs and delivers editorial excellence

At Accuracy Matters, we frequently receive questions about how we plan, resource and estimate editorial and content projects. A lot depends on clients’ requirements; however, the following can be used as a general guide.

How much notice do you need to resource projects?

In order for us to resource projects to a client’s specified deadline, we recommend allowing the following minimum lead times.

Two days’ notice

  • Proofreading: small to medium projects (up to around 50 pages)

One week’s notice

  • Proofreading: longer projects (over 50 pages)
  • Copy-editing: small to medium projects (up to around 40 pages)
  • Content creation: short pieces (e.g. web pages, blog posts, case studies, articles, bios)

Three to four weeks’ notice

  • Proofreading: very long (over 150 pages) and/or technical projects
  • Copy-editing: longer projects (over 40 pages)
  • Editing and writing: substantial editing, writing or copywriting projects
  • Consultancy: content audits and editorial consultancy projects (e.g. messaging frameworks, tone of voice reviews)

More than four weeks’ notice (or as much notice as possible!)

  • Copy-editing: very long (over 100 pages) and/or technical projects
  • Complex projects: multi-stage editing, writing or copywriting
  • Consultancy: long-term and/or wide-ranging content and editorial support
  • Specialist projects: anything for which we have to commission specialist teams (such as high-security and confidential reports, annual and sustainability reports, and very specialised technical areas e.g. medical)

How do you plan cover for projects?

Our tried-and-tested internal processes ensure that we can efficiently map capacity against client demand. Our workflow is audited annually under ISO 9001, ensuring quality and reliability.

  • Client briefing: A detailed client brief is essential from the very start to match the right editorial professional to each job
  • Capacity planning: We consider availability, expertise and specific client requests/contractual requirements
  • Alternative scheduling: On the rare occasions we can’t meet a deadline, we will offer the next available window
  • Peak planning: We prepare for peak periods such as the annual reporting season (January to April) and the run-up to parliamentary recess in June/July. More notice for projects during this time is beneficial

How much does it cost?

The short answer is it depends – because every project (and every client) is different. We can give options for a wide variety of projects and budgets, from proofreading a small leaflet through to managing a larger project requiring a multidisciplinary team or even delivering editorial training.

And we can always propose something suitable, even when budgets and/or timescales are tight.

Rest assured, we will look after you and manage the process on your behalf from start to finish.
